Hola! My name is Viri and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am the owner and founder of Luna Counseling, which specializes in bringing healing to the BIPOC community by using the innate strengths our gente possess and honoring our ancestral ways of healing.

My focus is working with daughters of immigrants, first-gen college students, and first-gen young professionals, helping them navigate and heal from the unique challenges we face as “firsts”.

As children of immigrants, we have learned the languages, rules, and cultures of the many environments we are a part of. As exciting as it can be to be the first in our family in multiple spaces, it can also be overwhelming to navigate. The constant code-switching can leave us feeling othered, embarrassed or ashamed, and burnout. And it can lead to anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome.

As daughters of immigrants, we experience the constant tug between our familial cultural expectations and those of the U.S. Figuring out our own way of existing in this country, while being pressured to follow our familia’s norms, can be filled with guilt and stress.

You may find yourself reflecting on your childhood and realized you've experienced trauma or unhealthy family dynamics. Perhaps you’re still struggling with unhealthy family relationships and not know what to do. I am here to validate and help you unpack these experiences that are unique to the children of immigrants, learn skills to navigate challenging feelings and situations, and break generational cycles of trauma.

I am a first-generation Xicana from padres campesinos and the eldest daughter of immigrants. I utilize this lens in my work, acknowledging the importance of culture in therapy. I am passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in the Latinx community, as well as decolonizing mental health services.

I honor and welcome ancestral ways of healing. Soy bilingüe and offer services en español. I’m known to say words or phrases in Spanish, especially for concepts that don’t have a direct English translation.

I'm excited to announce I have been trained in EMDR, which is very effective in processing trauma and connect our rational mind with our feelings and body sensations.

If you are interested in working with me, I invite you to contact me to set up a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation and see how I can help.

I also offer Psychosocial Immigration Evaluations for Asylum, VAWA, Domestic Violence, U-Visa, T-Visa and Extreme Hardship waivers. Please consult with your legal team to see if they recommend obtaining a Psychosocial Evaluation.
