About Vero Suazo, AMFT

Hi, I’m Vero

Hi, I’m Vero. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with Tonalli Therapy & Consulting, a bilingual, BIPOC-centered group practice in the Bay Area. I see clients in person in Berkeley, and online anywhere in California.

How I Got Here

Before becoming a therapist, I worked across a variety of industries and held leadership roles that put me alongside people from many different backgrounds and life experiences. Those years shaped who I am today and continue to influence the way I build real relationships with clients. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, and I’m now working toward licensure. Alongside my clinical work, I run my own coaching practice and host a podcast, so conversations about mental health are a big part of my life inside and outside the therapy room. I also have lived experience with ADHD and have learned to manage it myself, which shapes how I support clients navigating the same thing.

Who I Work With

A lot of the people I work with are moms and eldest daughters, the one everyone leans on, the one who ends up managing the whole family. If that’s you, you probably know anxiety and overthinking well, and you’re exhausted from holding everything together on your own. Maybe you’re a single mom with barely any support, and somewhere in there you stopped having time for yourself. Maybe you’re in the middle of a big transition, a new job, a new baby, a move, a relationship ending, or a grief you’re still learning how to carry. It’s normal to start wondering if the direction your life is going is really the one you want.

How I Work

Working with me, I’m warm but pretty direct. I’ll be honest with you about what I’m noticing, and I won’t just tell you what to do. If something’s worth pointing out, I’ll do it gently. You can bring up anything with me without worrying about being judged, love is love, and there’s no version of you that’s too much here. In our work together, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, somatic approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy, and I’ll always match the approach to what you actually need rather than the other way around. A lot of my clients tell me it’s the first time they’ve felt like someone was really listening.

What’s Possible

Imagine feeling more confident and a lot less hard on yourself. The overthinking and anxiety start to get easier to manage, and over time your life begins to feel aligned with who you actually want to become and the life you actually want, instead of the one everyone else expected of you. Whatever brought you here, my hope is that this becomes the space where you finally start putting yourself back on the list.

A Quote I Come Back To

One of my favorite quotes is from John Green: “There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.” I come back to it often, for my clients and for myself.

Outside the Therapy Room

Outside of sessions, I’m big on fitness and health, and honestly a lot of my best ideas show up mid-workout at the gym. I’m an eldest daughter myself, so a lot of what I work through with clients is personal for me. I’m walking through my own transitions too, and I think that makes me a better companion for yours.
