Cultural Identities

About Vanessa Ramirez, LMHC

I am a bilingual licensed Latina therapist and the founder of Fortaleza Counseling. I am a first-generation American who is passionate about supporting other first generation and immigrant Americans find the healing they deserve. My culturally sustaining and integrative approach is guided by psychodynamic, trauma-focused and attachment therapy. I believe in the power of healing through self-discovery, understanding past experiences, and addressing trauma to empower individuals to thrive.

With years of experience, I have worked with a diverse range of clients, including children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. In addition to my private practice, I have contributed my expertise to mental health clinics, hospitals, and colleges.

I specialize in helping individuals facing challenges like anxiety, depression, life transitions, PTSD, and trauma (e.g. racial trauma, intergenerational trauma, childhood trauma, complex trauma in immigrant populations). I am dedicated to welcoming adults of all identities, with a special focus on those who hold marginalized identities, including Latinx/a/o/e, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+. My work is individualized and centered on the client for growth, healing and liberation. I am based in New York and practicing via tele-therapy.
