About Teresa Merchán, Ph.D., LCMHC

Teresa Merchán, PhD, is a bilingual (Spanish/English) Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor at Healing Waves Therapy & Counseling. Originally from Ecuador, Teresa brings over a decade of experience supporting immigrants in the United States, with a deep commitment to serving members of the Latino community. Her approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive, honoring each client’s cultural identity, personal values, and lived experiences.

Teresa specializes in working with women experiencing depression, anxiety, intimate partner violence, and complex trauma. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed and strengths-based care, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and person-centered approaches. She also recognizes the impact that cultural, social, and systemic factors can have on mental health, and supports clients in making meaning of their experiences while building resilience, self-trust, and emotional healing.

Teresa offers therapy in both English and Spanish and strives to create a safe and empowering space where clients can process their experiences, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward meaningful change.
