Luz Trauma Therapy

Cultural Identities

About Luz Trauma Therapy

You’ve always been the strong one. La niña buena. The daughter who figured it out, the friend everyone calls in a crisis, the woman at work who never lets them see her sweat.

From the outside, you have it together. Inside, you’re exhausted — carrying the weight of your family’s dreams, your own expectations, and a quiet voice asking when does someone take care of me?

Maybe you grew up learning that your needs came last. That asking for help was a burden. That being a good daughter, a good woman, meant giving until there was nothing left. You became so good at holding everyone else up that you forgot what it felt like to be held yourself.

At Luz Trauma Therapy, we understand that kind of exhaustion — not just clinically, but personally. Stephanie Sorady, LCSW, is a first-gen eldest daughter who carries that same cultural inheritance. She knows the particular weight of intergenerational responsibility, the bicultural push and pull, and the invisible labor that so many Latinas carry in silence. Using EMDR and trauma-informed care, she helps ambitious, soulful women heal at the root — so that guilt, perfectionism, and people-pleasing stop running the show, and you finally get to live in alignment with who you actually are.

Brenda Alvarez, M.S., AMFT, is a bilingual Mexican immigrant clinician whose work is rooted in healing justice, cultural humility, and collective care. Brenda’s holistic approach honors your mind, body, spirit, and community — because healing doesn’t happen in isolation from the culture and roots that shaped you.

Sessions are offered virtually in English and Spanish across California and Florida, so you can do this work from wherever you feel most at home.
