About

Samantha Hamilton, LMSW, is a compassionate therapist at Amira for Her, specializing in working with marginalized women, particularly Latina women. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Samantha’s parents have been a significant influence in her life. Her mother, a retired social worker, worked in substance abuse programs, while her father worked as a researcher and project manager.

Samantha proudly identifies as Puerto Rican, Swedish, and Scottish, with a strong connection to her Puerto Rican heritage. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Fordham University, graduating in 2019 with a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology and a minor in Bioethics. Later, she attended Columbia University’s School of Social Work, earning her graduate degree in 2022.

Throughout her career, Samantha has held various roles in different organizations, including the East Harlem Scholars Academy as a school social worker, the New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center as a psychotherapist, and internships at Project STAY/BeWell Health Promotions, MS 191 The Angelo Patri School, and PS 130 Hernando De Soto, among others. She has also been involved in mentoring programs, tutoring, and advocacy work.

Samantha’s passion for counseling and social work stemmed from her mother’s inspiring stories about her patients. This ignited her desire to provide culturally competent care and empower individuals in need. Her focus lies in sexual and reproductive health justice, the intersection between mental health and reducing maternal mortality rates for marginalized women, and the connection between sexual health and mental well-being.

As a therapist, Samantha values community work, advocacy, health equity, and social justice. Her clinical approach centers around person-centered therapy, incorporating psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy methods. She has also received training in various modalities, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and more.

Clients often experience Samantha as open, non-judgmental, and genuine, creating a safe space for their authentic selves. She actively listens and empowers her clients, ensuring they feel seen and heard. Termination with clients has been bittersweet, with many expressing gratitude for the tools and resources Samantha provides to help them thrive.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Samantha is a cat lover and a creative soul. She finds solace in painting, drawing, and dancing when she seeks an outlet for restlessness or overwhelm.

Samantha Hamilton, LMSW, brings her expertise, cultural sensitivity, and genuine care to her work at Amira for Them. She is ready to support you on your path towards healing and personal growth.
