Cultural Identities

About Ps. Daniela Pacheco Olmedo, MA, LPC

My name is Daniela Pacheco, and I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Colorado and a Clinical Psychologist trained in Chile. As a Latina and an immigrant, I carry my own story of migration and adaptation, and this perspective shapes how I connect with the people I support. My practice, Raíces & Roots, was created as a space where Latinx, migrants, and BIPOC clients can feel deeply understood, respected, and valued for the fullness of who they are.

Over the past nine years, I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and communities experiencing trauma, migration, anxiety, depression, grief, identity transitions, and relationship challenges. My clinical experience spans many settings: public hospitals in Chile, rural clinics and hospitals in Colorado, community mental health centers, nonprofits, and academic institutions. In each of these spaces, I have witnessed how people carry resilience while also facing the burdens of inequality, racism, xenophobia, and systemic barriers. These experiences have taught me that healing must consider not only individual symptoms but also the larger cultural and social realities in which people live.

In therapy, I use an integrative approach that combines person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, family systemic therapy, liberation psychology, feminist perspectives, and trauma-informed care. At the heart of my work is the belief that healing happens through relationship, by being truly seen, heard, and supported. I hold space for clients to explore their identities, process painful experiences, and recognize their own capacity for growth. Together, we look at how personal struggles may be connected to broader social systems, while also identifying the strengths and coping strategies that help people move forward.

Many of my clients come from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color backgrounds. Some are navigating migratory grief, others are processing intergenerational trauma, and many are balancing the challenges of belonging to multiple cultures at once. I invite clients to bring their full selves into the room: their languages, their traditions, their spirituality, and their questions about identity and belonging. Therapy is not about fitting into someone else’s mold, but about creating a space where clients can honor their roots while also envisioning new possibilities for their lives.

I also bring experience as a teacher and supervisor, having designed and taught courses on trauma, intercultural mental health, and migration. I supervise interns and early-career therapists, and I often collaborate with organizations serving immigrant and refugee communities. These roles have reinforced my belief that therapy is a collective process: we grow through connection, dialogue, and mutual learning.

Academically, I hold a master’s degree in International Disaster Psychology from the University of Denver. My research and practice have focused on global mental health, migration, gender, and resilience. I have also worked with refugees, asylum seekers, and survivors of torture, experiences that inform my sensitivity to cultural context and systemic injustice.

As a bilingual therapist, I provide services in both English and Spanish. I know that language is deeply tied to emotion, memory, and identity, and I want clients to feel free to speak in the language that feels most natural in the moment. Sometimes that means moving fluidly between English and Spanish within a session, and that flexibility is always welcome.

If you are seeking therapy, I want you to know that this is a place where your story matters. Whether you are processing trauma, managing anxiety or depression, navigating migration, or exploring your identity, we can work together to build understanding, coping, and healing. At Raíces & Roots, I believe that our histories and cultures are not obstacles but powerful sources of resilience. I would be honored to walk alongside you in this journey.
