Welcome! I'm Mónica, a Latina immigrant therapist based in Maryland. Being born and raised in Colombia has offered me profound insights into the taboos surrounding mental illness, highlighting the significant barriers many face when considering therapy. My own journey—from growing up in Colombia to embracing a new life in the USA —has taught me the importance of understanding and navigating cultural contexts in mental health, as well as the power of resilience and the beauty of diverse human experiences. This personal journey fuels my passion for helping others work towards a healthy relationship with themselves and the world.

While I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, I recognize that therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Therefore, I remain open and flexible to integrating various therapeutic approaches to ensure that your individual needs are met, always with the objective of achieving your personal therapeutic goals. I have a wide range of experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, and grief. I also enjoy working with clients that have a specific phobia such as flying or driving phobia.

In my therapy sessions, the foundation is built on a strong therapeutic relationship, fostered through active listening, insightful feedback, and a generous dose of humor. I've discovered that humor is a powerful tool—it can ease tensions, encourage openness, and facilitate a quicker engagement in the therapeutic process. Embracing a strengths-based approach, I focus on leveraging your past experiences that have contributed to your growth, aiming to build and reinforce healthy habits.

If you're seeking a journey of healing infused with understanding, humor, and tailored support, let's connect. My approach is designed to make you feel seen, heard, and valued, creating a space where you can explore and grow. Together, we can navigate your path to well-being with compassion and empathy.
