My name is Mónica, and I am a Colombian Latina immigrant therapist based in Maryland. I bring my lived experience as a bicultural woman into my work, and I understand firsthand the resilience, warmth, and complexity that shape the Latinx experience. As immigrants, first-generation, or bicultural individuals, many of us learn to carry stress quietly, push through exhaustion, and prioritize everyone else before ourselves. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to be “the strong one” all the time.
I specialize in the treatment of insomnia and sleep difficulties, along with the concerns that often accompany them, such as anxiety, trauma, stress, and depression. Sleep affects everything—your mood, your energy, your relationships, and your ability to cope. When sleep suffers, life becomes heavier. My approach centers on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment that helps you retrain your mind and body for deeper, more restorative sleep—often in just eight weeks. I also address the emotional and cultural factors that contribute to ongoing sleep problems, helping clients strengthen both rest and mental health.
My work is rooted in CBT, informed by a feminist perspective, and shaped by cultural awareness. I understand the pressures many Latinas and Latinx individuals face—family expectations, acculturation stress, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the feeling of living between cultures. Together, we look at both daytime habits and nighttime patterns, as well as the beliefs, stressors, and cultural narratives that influence your well-being. From there, we create a personalized, realistic plan that fits your life.
I offer therapy in English and Spanish, and you’re welcome to use whichever language feels most natural in the moment. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported—not judged, not rushed, and never alone. If you’re ready to feel rested, grounded, and more connected to yourself, I’m here to help you get there.
