Cultural Identities

About Monica Carrasco, MSW, LCSW

I am a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than five years of experience providing therapeutic support to children, adolescents, and adults. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals facing anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, relational stress, and a variety of life transitions. My work is grounded in the belief that every person deserves a safe, compassionate space to explore their experiences and move toward healing and growth.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Carthage College, where I developed a strong foundation in human behavior, social systems, and advocacy. I went on to earn my master’s degree in Social Work from Aurora University, deepening my clinical training and expanding my understanding of evidence‑based therapeutic practices. Over the years, I have continued to invest in my professional development, most recently completing specialized training in couples therapy. This additional training has allowed me to broaden my scope of practice and support couples in strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and navigating relational challenges with greater understanding and intention.

In addition to my clinical work, I provide supervision for clinicians pursuing full licensure and have experience supervising interns at various stages of their professional journey. I value mentorship and enjoy helping emerging social workers develop confidence, refine their clinical skills, and cultivate their own therapeutic voice. Supporting the next generation of clinicians is an important part of my work, and I approach supervision with the same warmth, curiosity, and respect that I bring to my sessions with clients.

My therapeutic style is collaborative, client-centered, and grounded in a range of evidence-based approaches, including mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, and person-centered therapy. I strive to create an environment where clients feel encouraged, empowered, and understood. My goal is to walk alongside individuals as they identify their needs, strengthen their sense of self, and establish healthier patterns across different areas of life and relationships.

I am also passionate about integrating faith-based practices and spiritual truths into the therapeutic process when clients desire it. I recognize that spirituality can be a powerful source of meaning, grounding, and resilience. At the same time, I honor the uniqueness of each client’s background, beliefs, and lived experience. Whether faith is central to someone’s identity or not, I approach every person with openness, humility, and a commitment to tailoring therapy to their individual needs.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy staying active at the gym, spending time in scripture and prayer, and connecting with family and friends. My faith plays a meaningful role in my life, and I recently became a youth leader at my local church. In this role, I support young people as they explore spiritual truths and learn how to apply them in their everyday lives. Guiding youth in their personal and spiritual development has been a rewarding extension of my passion for helping others grow, heal, and thrive.
