I am Milagros, a bilingual (English and Spanish) pre-licensed mental health counseling intern. I was born in Uruguay and have had the unique experience of living in three different countries. These personal relocations have shaped my perspective and inspired my passion for supporting children, teens, and families as they navigate life’s challenges with compassion and collaboration.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University and my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University. My background includes work in developmental psychology research, where I explored the effects of praise on children and contributed to a manuscript currently in progress. This research has strengthened my clinical foundation and deepened my understanding of how children and families grow and thrive.
During my internship at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, I had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, and families from diverse backgrounds. I supported clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment difficulties, self-harming behaviors, and autism spectrum disorder. I also co-facilitated therapeutic groups that helped youth manage school and social anxiety.
My clinical approach integrates cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and a strengths-based perspective to tailor treatment to each client’s needs. I find CBT especially effective when working with children, while a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach with adolescents and families fosters deeper, long-lasting change. Above all, I believe that a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful growth and healing.
With gentle guidance, I strive to help each client discover their inner strengths, build resilience, and move toward greater well-being. My work is collaborative, nonjudgmental, and rooted in deep respect for each person’s unique experiences and life story.
