Experience Prior to joining my current practice, I worked in a community clinic where the majority of my clients were Spanish-speaking or new immigrants to the United States. Considering the many challenges that come with adjusting to a new environment, it is my privilege to support anybody going through major life transitions and changes. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families from a systemic and structural lens. Research and Writing Much of my academic curiosity stems from wanting to give back to my heritage and community. My master’s thesis focused on analyzing the presence of ethnic minorities within the clinical psychology discipline. I also collaborated with international clinicians on the effects of Emotionally Focused Therapy in Spanish. Most recently, I am managing an NIMH-funded grant that uses a navigation model to engage and sustain mental healthcare services for Black and Latinx families. Speaking & Community I have partnered with various organizations over the years to increase mental healthcare access for the Latino community, including Latinos in Action and the Strengthening Families project. I also occasionally guest-lecture for the multicultural therapy class at Brigham Young University. On a more personal note… I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and immigrated to Utah with my family at the age of three. My own experience receiving therapy as a child shaped my desire to become a therapist and reduce the stigma of mental healthcare within the Latino community. Depending on the day, you can either find me taking classes on software development or outside taking care of my chickens (seven and counting!). My wife is also a marriage and family therapist, and we welcomed our first daughter in April 2022.
