Cultural Identities

About Larissa Rancier-Otero, Psy.D.

As a Latina clinical psychologist, I bring a unique perspective to my practice, having worked with diverse populations both in Puerto Rico and New York City, which has allowed me to understand the experiences of different minority groups intimately. I recognize the utmost importance of creating a safe and culturally sensitive space for my clients, understanding how culture shapes our identity and influences how we navigate life’s challenges. My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based treatments, enabling me to effectively address a wide range of issues that include mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, trauma, low self-esteem, life transitions, attachment issues and relationship challenges among others. I adopt an eclectic style, tailoring interventions to each client’s specific needs. My primary orientations include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In our work together, I will guide you to explore and understand how past experiences may impact your present emotions and behaviors. By delving into these connections, we can gain insights that facilitate positive change and growth. Through collaboration, I will also help you develop and practice specific coping skills to address distress effectively. Whether it’s learning to navigate and challenge unhelpful thoughts through CBT techniques, incorporating mindfulness practices for present moment awareness and self-connection, or engaging in exercises to calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety, I am here to support you every step of the way. Additionally, I place a strong emphasis on practices of acceptance and self-compassion. Together, we will work on embracing your authentic self and fostering a healthier and kinder relationship with yourself —the foundation for fostering fulfilling and meaningful connections with others. I am committed to providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you feel empowered to explore your thoughts and emotions openly. I offer 15-minute free phone consultation where I can answer any questions you may have, and we can determine if we would be a good fit to work together.

The easiest way to contact me is through email dr***************@gm***.com or text (646)437-6410 and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours. Looking forward to hearing from you! Larissa Rancier-Otero, Psy.D.
