Being a queer Mexican immigrant, in a fat body, and a bit of an anarchist, really describes my personal and therapeutic approach to therapy. Whether I say it in Spanish or in English, I enjoy being authentic in my approach and enjoy using emotionally-driven models in my work with clients. I graduated with my master’s degree in Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy in 2019 from Lewis and Clark College, in Portland, OR. My focus on social justice and liberation/decolonizing therapy were the foundation of my focus while in grad school. I participated in launching a Latinx problem gambling clinic (the first in its kind in the US) as part of my internship, and went along to be hired as one of their first bilingual therapists in the program. After a year and a half, I moved on to working for Sea Mar Behavioral Health Centers in Vancouver, WA. Working with vulnerable populations, as part of a community mental health clinic for over six years, helped me develop a better understanding of myself as a professional, as well as a provider. Understanding the barriers that communities face when it comes to mental health reinforced my commitment to creating spaces where folks could connect with me and come to trust the benefits of therapy. I learned my strengths are rooted in relational work, more specifically, working with queer and none-traditional couples/marriages, addressing intergenerational patterns in families with historic and relational trauma, sexual identity development, as well as fat liberation/acceptance, using the lens of health at every size/HEAS.
Waterfall Therapy was born out of my love for my Queer Latinx community. It is my commitment to providing services that create relational and personal safety, nourishment and belonging.
