About Karla Hernandez, LCSW, PMH-C

Welcome! I specialize in helping women, moms, and moms to be, overcome anxiety and gain peace of mind. With almost a decade of experience in the field, I enjoy partnering with women to guide them through their worries, overthinking, and fears of not being good enough. I particularly want a create a space where new moms can be brutally honest about how hard postpartum really is—and still feel loved, supported, and reminded that they are enough.

As the oldest daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation college student, I know all about perseverance despite challenges. This led me to graduate school to become a clinical social worker. My first internship involved treating hospital patients who were victims of crime, including interpersonal partner violence  and SA. I spent my first 3 years post graduate working with children that had experienced childhood trauma, utilizing TF-CBT for treatment. Soon went on to work with adults in a community setting facing various concerns, many stemming from childhood trauma. My experiences in this field have shaped the way I approach therapy sessions with all my clients, which is with empathy, compassion and without judgment.

You should know that working with me means getting support that is individualized to your unique needs; I will provide you with things to work on outside of sessions, as I truly believe much of the progress you make is because of the practice you put into the real world. In addition, my approach can—at times—simply be lighthearted, with a sense of humor when needed; sessions don’t always have to be so down and serious. I want clients to feel a strong sense of support through the difficult parts while also feeling like they can be themselves unapologetically.

If I am not in network with your medical insurance, you might be able to get reimbursed for out-of-network therapy! Check here: mentaya.co/b/karlahernandez
