Greetings! My name is Karen Rivera-Seda and I am a Jamaica born 1.5 Generation American. I am a licensed therapist who is trained in marriage, couples, and family therapy as well as certified in both anxiety and trauma.
Through building a collaborative partnership with each client, I provide support to adults (18+) in the areas of adult children of immigrants, anxiety, betrayal trauma, Caribbean-American/-Immigrant concerns, dating, grief, life transition/adjustments, and Women’s issues. I also provide support to couples in the areas of communication, interracial relationships, life transitions, premarital, pre-engagement, pre-cohabitation, and marital concerns. As an added service, I am a provider of clinical supervision and immigration evaluations. Each service can be conducted in English and/or Jamaican Patois (Patois); evaluation sessions can be conducted in other languages with the assistance of an interpreter.
My approach has been described as being direct, warm, relatable and empowering. Being a 1.5 generation immigrant has afforded me not only firsthand experience/knowledge of some of the difficulties, challenges and fears that immigrants may face in a new country and/or while maneuvering the immigration process, but also an awareness to the importance of empathy, compassion and cultural competence being present in every interaction.
It takes courage to embark on any new journey and as such I strive to provide a non-judgmental experience where each individual feels safe, supported and heard. If you are ready to take the step, I invite you to schedule a consultation call.
