Cultural Identities

About Julia L. Mendizabal, LCSW

Beginning therapy can feel like both a hopeful and overwhelming step. Many of my clients come to me at a point where they feel stuck, weighed down by stress, or uncertain about how to move forward. If this sounds familiar, know that you are not alone. Seeking support is a sign of strength, and I commend you for taking this step toward healing and growth.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have dedicated my career to creating a safe, welcoming environment where individuals can explore their emotions, gain insight into their experiences, and develop practical strategies for change. My role is not to “fix” you—because you are not broken—but to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your strengths, resilience, and authentic self. I approach therapy as a collaborative process, one that is guided by your unique needs, goals, and pace.

My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I draw from approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, and strengths-based perspectives, while also integrating a holistic understanding of how culture, identity, and lived experiences shape who we are. I believe healing happens when we honor both your struggles and your strengths.

I work with individuals who are facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are navigating stressors related to career, family, or identity, and are looking for a space where they can feel supported and understood. Whether you are processing past wounds, seeking healthier ways to cope, or simply wanting to feel more at peace in your daily life, I am here to help.

In our sessions, you can expect a balance of support and challenge. I will listen deeply and without judgment, but I will also encourage you to explore patterns, experiment with new perspectives, and practice skills that can help you move forward. Therapy is not always easy, but it is always a space where you can show up as your full self—messy, complex, and human—and know that you will be met with care and respect.

I also recognize that choosing a therapist can feel like a vulnerable process. It is important that you feel a genuine connection with the person you are working with. My clients often describe me as approachable, genuine, and steady. I believe in meeting people where they are, honoring their lived experiences, and tailoring therapy so that it feels relevant and meaningful to them.

As a Latina-owned practice, I am especially mindful of the importance of cultural responsiveness in therapy. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and identities and strive to create an affirming space where all voices and experiences are valued. Whether you are navigating cultural stressors, exploring identity, or seeking a therapist who understands the complexity of balancing multiple roles and expectations, you will find an inclusive and supportive environment here.

Above all, my goal is to provide a therapeutic space where healing and growth can happen. Therapy is not about quick fixes—it is about cultivating resilience, fostering self-compassion, and learning tools that can support you long after our sessions end. If you are feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or ready for change, I want you to know that support is available.
