Cultural Identities

About Josselyn Garcia-Jimenez, LCSW

Hi, I’m Josselyn!
I know how heavy it can feel to carry the weight of family pressures, cultural expectations, and old wounds that resurface just when you thought you’d moved on. Add in anxiety or depression, and just pushing through the day can feel unbearable. You don’t have to do this alone.

I provide therapy in Illinois for adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges. Many of my clients are first-, 1.5-, or second-generation Latinx individuals who often feel caught between multiple worlds. Therapy with me is about having someone who truly understands the layers you’re holding; your story, your struggles, and your identity.

My style & approach
I bring a warm, relational, and flexible style. In our sessions, all parts of you are welcome; the parts that laugh, cry, worry, and hope. I draw from narrative therapy, mindfulness, somatic practices, and attachment-based approaches, but I always move at your pace.

Specialties
◦ Anxiety & overwhelm
◦ Depression & low energy
◦ Relationship & family challenges
◦ Trauma & intergenerational wounds
◦ Identity, culture, & self-esteem
◦ Life transitions

Therapy with a cultural lens
As a 1.5 generation Peruvian immigrant, I understand how intergenerational trauma, cultural stigma, and identity struggles shape our mental health. If you’ve ever felt like you had to hold everything together for your family, or like no one truly “got” your experience, therapy can give you the space to finally exhale.

Insurance & Payment
I currently accept Aetna IL and UHC IL, with BCBS IL and Cigna coming soon. I also offer self-pay options and superbills.

Outside of therapy, I recharge by spending time with my partner and our shih-tzu, Pisco, who occasionally joins as a very quiet honorary therapy dog.

If you’re looking for a culturally aware therapist who gets the nuances of being Latinx and navigating multiple worlds, I’d be honored to support you.
