Jesus Rivera is a compassionate therapist at Mosaic Wholeness Center who provides culturally grounded, faith-sensitive counseling for individuals navigating anxiety, stress, addiction, and life challenges. He holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity International University and is a proud resident of Waukegan, Illinois.
As a 2.5-generation Puerto Rican counselor, Jesus brings a deep appreciation for culture, community, and lived experience into the therapy space. He is passionate about creating an environment where clients feel truly seen, understood, and respected, especially those who may have felt overlooked or misunderstood in other settings.
Jesus believes that every person is made in the image of God and carries the capacity for healing, growth, and meaningful change. His approach is rooted in empathy, compassion, and dignity: meeting each client where they are and walking alongside them at their own pace.
Before joining Mosaic Wholeness Center, Jesús spent 18 years as a para-educator, an experience that shaped his ability to build strong relationships, offer steady support, and meet people with patience and care. He also has experience in addiction counseling and specializes in helping clients struggling with problematic gambling, as well as concerns related to substance use, emotional regulation, and relational stress.
Jesus uses a person-centered, strengths-based approach and integrates evidence-based practices from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Through this blend of clinical tools, cultural humility, and spiritual grounding, he helps clients identify patterns, develop coping skills, and move toward lasting personal goals.
Clients working with Jesus can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space to explore their stories, rediscover hope, and build lives marked by resilience, purpose, and wholeness.
Jesus works with individuals facing a variety of challenges, including:
Problematic gambling
Addiction recovery and substance use concerns
Anxiety and chronic stress
Emotional regulation and coping skills
Life transitions and identity development
Relationship and family challenges
Spiritual integration and faith-informed support
Culturally responsive counseling for Latino and multicultural clients
Outside of the counseling room, Jesus enjoys researching topics of interest, reading speculative fiction, journaling, watching films, listening to music, attending live performances, and engaging in community events.
Jesus offers therapy in a welcoming, culturally responsive environment and is currently accepting new clients.
