Cultural Identities

About Isela Garcia White, LCSW, therapist and founder of Lotus Bloom Therapy

Hi, I’m Isela Garcia White, LCSW, therapist and founder of Lotus Bloom Therapy. I provide virtual therapy for adults across California, with a focus on supporting BIPOC, Latinx, immigrant, and first- and second-generation clients. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, stress, grief, life transitions, cultural and family expectations, or the pressures of academics and professional life. If you’re looking for a therapist who understands how identity, culture, and lived experience shape your wellbeing, you may find a good fit with me.

I believe we all carry the wisdom and capacity to heal and grow. In our work together, I integrate evidence-based approaches in a way that feels supportive and practical. For example, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help shift unhelpful thought patterns, while Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) supports living in alignment with your values. Interpersonal therapy can strengthen your relationships and sense of self, and trauma-informed care ensures that we move at a pace that feels safe. I also work from a strengths-based perspective and am mindful of how systemic oppression and inequities impact our lived experiences. While CBT can be helpful, I recognize that struggles are not simply about “faulty thinking” — they’re connected to the broader contexts we live in. My role is to center your resilience, cultural identity, and strengths so you can reflect, grow, and move toward meaningful change.

As a first-generation Latina and daughter of immigrants, I deeply understand the experience of balancing cultural traditions, family expectations, and personal goals. For many of my clients, “identity-related experiences” may mean being the first in their family to pursue higher education and competitive work settings, navigating multiple cultural worlds, or carrying the weight of intergenerational pressures. Therapy can be a place to explore the complexities of these experiences and reclaim your own voice.

My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by both personal and professional experiences. Growing up as a first-generation Latina, I witnessed how stigma, lack of access, and systemic barriers impacted the mental health of those around me. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career where I could create spaces that honor culture, resilience, and healing. With more than two decades of experience in community mental health, higher education, and healthcare settings, I bring both lived experience and professional training into my practice.

In our first session, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and what has or hasn’t worked before. It’s a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a plan together. Therapy sessions are typically scheduled weekly or biweekly, with the option for more intermittent appointments if that feels more appropriate. The frequency of sessions can also shift over time, depending on your progress and life circumstances. My goal is to offer a space that is collaborative, flexible, and responsive to your needs.

I also offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and see if working with me feels right. You can reach me by phone, through the contact form on this profile, or via my website at www.lotusbloomtherapy.org.
