About Heidy Milena Davila, MA, AMFT

You were raised to be strong. To not complain. To be grateful for everything your family sacrificed to give you a better life.

And you are grateful. But you’re also exhausted carrying guilt you can’t explain, anxiety you can’t turn off, and a quiet feeling that you’ve spent so long taking care of everyone else that you’ve completely lost track of who you actually are.

That’s not ingratitude. That’s what happens when you grow up learning that your needs always come last.

Do any of these feel familiar?

You say yes when you mean no and then resent yourself for it. You’ve achieved things your family dreamed of, but still feel empty or stuck. You carry the emotional weight of your entire family. You feel guilty for wanting something different. You lie awake replaying conversations, wondering if you said the wrong thing. You’ve started to wonder: Is this just who I am, or can things actually change?

If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place.

Growing up in a Latinx immigrant household often means becoming the responsible one before you were ready. The first to go to college. The one who was supposed to make all the sacrifice worth it. You learned to carry stress without showing it, to always put the family first, and to never, ever add to anyone’s burden.

I work with first-generation Latinx adults and teens, children of immigrants, and bilingual English/Spanish speakers navigating exactly this. Many of my clients aren’t in crisis; they’re just tired of living for everyone else and finally ready to figure out what they actually want for themselves.

I’m a bilingual (English/Spanish), First-Generation Latina therapist and Associate MFT, raised in a Guatemalan immigrant household in Los Angeles. I hold a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and am licensed in California (AMFT #160305).

What working with me looks like:

I’m warm, direct, and I don’t do surface-level work. No toxic positivity. No “just set boundaries and you’ll be fine.” In our sessions, we go deeper, exploring where your patterns came from, how they once helped you survive, and how to build a new relationship with yourself. One where your choices come from what you actually want, not from guilt, fear, or the weight of everyone else’s expectations.

My approach draws from psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, somatic awareness, and IFS-informed methods. Together, we’ll work on understanding your inner world, healing old wounds, and helping you show up as the person you want to be, not just the role you’ve always been expected to fill.

I offer both in-person sessions in Los Angeles and online therapy throughout California, so you can access support wherever you are.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, family pressure, relationship struggles, burnout, or just a sense that something needs to change,  I’d love to help.

Ready to take the first step? I offer a free consultation so we can talk about what you’re going through and see if we’re a good fit. Visit my website or use the booking link to schedule yours today.
