About Fanny Vázquez, MS, LMFT

Hola! My name is Fanny Vazquez, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I provide both Individual and Couples therapy. I am first generation, bilingual and bicultural, fluent in Spanish. I have over 20 years of experience as a therapist, working in the field of mental health in various settings. I offer both in-person and telehealth (online) therapy services for clients in California only.

During the therapy process clients will experience feelings of vulnerability. Because of this, it is important for me that you feel heard, supported and safe when we work together in therapy.

Clients often come to therapy with feelings of sadness, despair, anger, worry, fear, grief, and many other emotions that they have been carrying for some time or due to a recent situation. When working with clients in therapy, I focus on assisting you in identifying what may be causing your current struggles as well as exploring what you may need to feel better.

Through the process of therapy, I support you in identifying where the emotions originated, how they were learned and reinforced, how they are triggered now and how they are impacting your life. I help clients process past and present traumas and process difficult and uncomfortable emotions.

We explore how your life is impacted by your current struggles whether it be your relationship with a partner, family, friends or work. I assist you in learning to set healthy boundaries, communicate your feelings and needs in an assertive and effective manner, and repair wounded relationships when possible.

In therapy, you will also learn to identify your strengths, develop and implement new coping skills, and learn how to identify and regulate your emotions. Through this process I also support you in creating self-compassion and self-love.

Therapeutic skills you will often find us using in therapy sessions are developing an increased awareness of your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Exploration of how we hold trauma in the body, and incorporating breathwork, sound, and movement to assist in processing difficult emotions. We may also discuss sleep patterns, healthy eating habits, and exercise as methods of coping.

Over the years I have trained in various approaches and techniques to help you improve your overall wellbeing. As a result of this work, I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach but rather ensure I get to know you to determine what approach is the most appropriate for your current situation.

In addition to working with individuals, I also work with couples at any stage of their relationship, whether you are married, cohabitating, dating or wanting to repair a relationship. I work with couples looking to improve their communication, process past hurt, wanting to learn how to manage conflict, betrayals and infidelity, wanting to begin a relationship with healthy tools, wanting to break unhealthy intergenerational patterns, and more.

Because couples’ therapy work is so unique, I have received specialized training to apply when working with couples. I am trained in Gottman Method for Couples Therapy (Levels 1-3 and treating affairs and trauma) as well as Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

I am committed to offering inclusive mental health services to individuals from all walks of life. In my practice, I strive to affirm people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, immigrant communities, gender identities, sexual orientations, professions, and belief systems.

I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute phone consultation with me to ask any questions you may have regarding the process of therapy, how I can support you, how I work with clients and any other questions that you may have.
