Cultural Identities

About Emily Yáñez, LMFT

If you’re one of the strong ones – the first-generation, BIPOC, or LGBTQ+ adult who’s always been the one everyone else leans on, you already know how exhausting that can be. Maybe you’re stuck overthinking every decision, second-guessing your needs, or carrying guilt for wanting more than to just keep everyone else okay. You might feel like love has to be earned by being useful, easy, or strong- and like somewhere along the way, you lost touch with who you are underneath all of that.

I’m an EMDR-trained trauma therapist. My work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and LGBTQ+ affirming. Together, we slow down the survival patterns that have kept you going – overthinking, people-pleasing, guilt- and build self-trust and real boundaries, so you can feel grounded and worthy as you are, not just for what you do for others.

I see clients in-person in Eagle Rock, and virtually throughout California. As a first-gen therapist with a specialization in Latinx families, I don’t just study these patterns – I’ve lived them. In our sessions, your story is honored, not pathologized. Reach out for a free consultation call or to book today!
