Hello, My name is Patricia Alvarado and I am a licensed therapist in California and New York. I want to personally welcome you to Alvarado Therapy, an EMDR group therapy practice. We are so happy that you’ve embarked on this journey of introspection, growth, and healing. Collectively, we have over a decade of experience in the helping profession, working with children, teens, and adults. Our biggest focus is approaching each client with a multicultural lens that allows us to understand your unique needs through active listening, empathy, and a non-judgmental perspective.
As a team, most of us are First Generation of Mexican descent where are roots span through various states within Mexico. Despite our Mexican heritage, we understand the importance of cultural identity across the span of Latin American countries and approach each client with openness and curiosity as we learn about your own unique identity. This helps us understand you more on a deeper level while exploring how culture and language play a critical role within our work together.
This understanding of the First Gen experience paired with our own unique upbringing allows us to approach each interaction with empathy and a deep care and understanding for your story. We understand how difficult it is to even reach out for therapy services as it is often seen as shameful. We know what it feels like to feel unacknowledged, unimportant, and powerless. As therapists, this allows us to lean into the power of choice and most importantly, lean into the power of our voice. This message is what we bring into each therapy session.
When working with clients, we always put our clients first and meet them where they are at in this moment. While our practice focuses on EMDR Therapy, we can also understand that not everyone is ready for EMDR Therapy or are simply not interested in it, and that is okay. The biggest piece for us is that you don’t lose your voice in similar ways that you might have felt lost in the past. We value your input – that’s what makes a great therapeutic relationship! Nonetheless, our specialties include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Solution-Focused Therapy, Brainspotting, and Mindfulness. We have extensive experience treating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationships. Our EMDR-focused approach helps desensitize and reprocess negative beliefs without retraumatizing—making it distinct from traditional talk therapy.
