You were raised to be a good woman. That meant your mother’s expectations, your tia’s opinions, and everyone else’s needs carried more weight than your own. You were taught that sacrifice was love. That putting yourself last was strength. That wanting more was selfish.
But you DO want and need more.
You’re likely the first in your family to go to college, the first to challenge the rules you grew up with, and the first to say out loud that the old way isn’t working for you. That takes courage. It also comes with a particular kind of loneliness. Because even as you build a life your abuelita couldn’t have imagined, you’re still carrying her voice in your head. Still feeling the guilt when you choose yourself. Still trying to close the gap between the woman you’re becoming and the culture that raised you.
You’re high-achieving, capable, and exhausted in ways that are hard to explain to people who haven’t lived it.
I’m Eliza Boquin, a licensed psychotherapist and AASECT certified sex therapist working with first-generation Latinas/Latine women/Latinx women who are done sacrificing themselves to meet everyone else’s expectations. I specialize in relationships, intimacy, attachment wounds, and the burnout that comes from being the one who always holds it together.
I understand the weight of intergenerational pressure, the complexity of navigating two cultures, and the guilt that comes with daring to put yourself first. You don’t have to spend half our session explaining your family dynamics or code-switching to be understood.
In our work together you’ll begin to untangle the patterns that were handed down to you, learn to communicate your needs without guilt, and build relationships that don’t require you to disappear inside them.
You’ve already done the hard work of breaking cycles in every other area of your life. Your relationships deserve the same.
If you’re ready to do the work then let’s get started today.
Start by signing up for your free 15-minute phone consultation. No pressure, no commitment, just a conversation. Then we can decide if working together sounds like a good idea.
I look forward to supporting you.
