Hola! Me llamo, Dulce Ortega Rojas (She/Her/Ella), I was born in Queretaro, Mexico however, at eleven I migrated to Los Angeles with my mom. As a first-generation undocumented student, I had to learn to navigate the education system. At 18, I left home and moved into a dorm room at the University of California, Santa Barbara. My journey there was short – at the time, there were little to no loans or scholarships open to undocumented students. I moved back to the community that saw me grow up, the San Fernando Valley. I enrolled in Los Angeles Valley College and earned my associate degree in early childhood education. I then transferred to CSU Northridge where I earned my B.A. in child and adolescent development. In 2021, I earned my master’s degree in social work at the same university (CSUN). I am now an Associate Clinical Social Worker with over three years of experience working with adults from a wide variety of backgrounds. My specific focus is on first-generation and undocumented experiences, intergenerational patterns, life transitions, and survivors of systemic trauma. I truly believe that everyone has the potential to achieve their goals and live a fulfilling life. I am committed to helping clients reach their potential while providing them with a brave space for them to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I enjoy working collaboratively to help identify your strengths and abilities. I am also a human so I always enjoy un cafecito, pan, y chisme! www.reclaimyou.support/about-us-dulce
What does a typical session with me look like?
Every session will likely look and feel different. One constant, however, is that I will most likely welcome you with a cup of my favorite cafecito or my huge Hello Kitty water bottle. Usually, I will ask how your week went or if you have something specific to bring to the session. This does not mean you need to have a topic ready! Simply want to prioritize your needs and voice.
Every session won’t be a “TV breakthrough moment” sometimes we’ll spend some time talking about your hobbies or generally chismeando about your week. We will explore your story and often pause and slow down. I will help you make connections while sharing space with you. At the end of the day, you know your story best, I will just be there to support.
