Cultural Identities

About Dr. Yanira Hernandez, EdD, LCSW, PPSC

¡Hola y Bienvenidxs! My name is Dra. Yanira Hernandez (she/her/ella), and I’m a bilingual, bicultural, trauma-focused Licensed Mental Health Therapist and the CEO/Founder of Pa’lante Therapy, Inc. I provide culturally rooted therapy for BIPOC individuals, with a deep commitment to serving Latine communities. I am an affirming ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and a supportive resource for undocumented/DACAmented folks navigating systems that were never designed with us in mind.

As the eldest daughter of undocumented immigrants from Puebla, México, raised in South Central Los Angeles, I bring both clinical expertise and lived experience to the therapy space. I know what it’s like to carry responsibility early, translate worlds, and survive oppressive systems while still trying to thrive. This is why I’m passionate about helping clients untangle cross-cultural conflicts, reconnect with their bodies, and build safety from the inside out—especially those who have spent their lives being “strong,” “capable,” and the one others depend on.

I’ve been practicing as a mental health professional since 2011, and my specialties include complex trauma (racial/ancestral/intergenerational trauma, early childhood trauma, and trauma in immigrant populations), anxiety, depression, stress, work-related burnout, perfectionism, and professional identity concerns. I also support clients in deconstructing the imposter phenomenon through intersectional and trauma-informed lenses—because what’s often labeled as “imposter syndrome” is frequently a valid response to systemic oppression, racism, microaggressions, machismo, marianismo, and intergenerational survival wounds.

I especially love supporting First-Generation Latine comunidad, college and graduate students, and immigrant/system-navigator identities who are moving through major transitions and asking: “Do I belong here?” “Am I good enough?” “Why do I feel like I’m failing, even when I’m doing everything right?” When life transitions meet racialized stress, the nervous system can respond with anxiety, depressive thoughts, shutdown, or traumatic stress responses. Together, we’ll gently explore the roots of these patterns, so you can stop blaming yourself for what was shaped by survival.

If you are a First-Gen Latine ready to heal generational wounds, process the impact of oppressive systems on your mind, body, and spirit, and build healthier ways to cope with anxiety and emotional overwhelm, I’m here. Therapy with me is a space to release what you’ve been carrying, rewrite the story you inherited, and reclaim the parts of you that have always been worthy.

Together, we will build insight and compassion, understand the protective behaviors developed over time, and create real tools to help you live with more authenticity, grounding, and peace con confianza y fortaleza. You don’t have to keep surviving on autopilot. It’s time to return to yourself.
Eres poderosx, siempre lo fuiste.

I offer linguistically- and culturally-responsive therapy in both English and Spanish, grounded in trauma-focused, anti-oppressive care. I integrate modalities based on your needs and lived experiences. If you’re ready to begin, I invite you to schedule a free consultation. Send me an email or message, and we’ll take the next step together.

Con cariño, Dra. Hernandez
