Cultural Identities

About Dr. Mercedes Santana PhD Counseling Psychologist

I am a trauma psychologist, rooted in the belief that therapy is an ancient and sacred practice—a space for healing, liberation, and deep truth. I became a psychologist not just to fulfill my own calling, but to expand the number of racial and ethnic mental health providers who can authentically connect with and serve the community. As one of the few doctoral-level Afro-Latine psychologists, my work is grounded in a deep understanding of the complexities of identity, culture, and lived experience.

In my practice, I don’t just use theory—I bring myself as a whole being. I am in a constant process of decolonizing my clinical work, unlearning what does not serve us, and reclaiming healing practices that honor the richness of our cultures. With me, you will find a space that is genuine, transparent, empowering, and deeply rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors. I walk with you, honoring your story, your struggles, and your strength.

Therapy with me is a collaborative journey. It’s not just about talking; it’s about skill-building, affirmation, and creating a space where you are truly heard—something often denied to us in the world. Here, you are safe to express, to heal, and to grow into the fullness of who you are meant to be.

No matter the cultural stigma, personal fears, or barriers in your way, you deserve to have the space and time to heal. My virtual practice offers you HIPAA-compliant tele-health therapy, a safe space where you can show up as you are. You are worthy of being seen, heard, and deeply valued. Your healing matters. Your well-being is sacred.

I am licensed to practice in the state of Minnesota and have been granted access via PSYPACT to serve the following U.S. areas: AL AR AZ CO CNMI CT DE DC FL GA ID IN IL KS KY ME MD MI MN MS MO NE NV NH NJ NC ND OH OK PA RI SC SD TN TX UT VT VA WA WV WI WY.
