Hola, I’m Diane Meléndez, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) serving clients in both Colorado and Puerto Rico. I’m a proud Puerto Rican therapist with over 15 years of experience working with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, chronic illness, and life transitions. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a deep respect for cultural identity, resilience, and spiritual exploration.
My work blends evidence-based modalities with holistic, intuitive elements. I’m trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and I also integrate somatic approaches, mindfulness-based therapy, and ancestral healing practices when clients are open to them. This allows us to work not just with the mind and emotions but also with the body, spirit, and the invisible threads of intergenerational experience.
I’m especially passionate about working with immigrants, trauma survivors, and individuals navigating acculturation stress and the intergenerational wounds that often affect Latinx families. Many of my clients find themselves living between cultures, carrying the weight of cultural expectations, generational trauma, and the emotional complexity of navigating both U.S. systems and Latin American roots. My goal is to help clients honor where they come from while also making space to grow, heal, and redefine their sense of self in a way that feels authentic and liberating.
Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I tune in to each client’s rhythm and needs, offering tools that are culturally affirming, trauma-informed, and emotionally attuned. I see healing as sacred and often nonlinear, a journey that deserves respect, creativity, and a good dose of humor.
As a bilingual therapist, I offer therapy in both English and Spanish. I understand firsthand how identity, language, migration, and systemic oppression shape mental health. I strive to create a space where you can bring all parts of yourself, including your cultural, spiritual, and linguistic heritage. Whether you’re processing generational trauma or just need someone who truly understands the experience of living between cultures, I bring both professional training and lived experience to the table.
My private practice is called Bohique Counseling, inspired by the Taíno word bohique, which refers to a spiritual healer and guide in Taíno culture. This name reflects my intention to reclaim and honor ancestral wisdom within a modern therapeutic context. The vision behind Bohique Counseling is to offer a space that bridges clinical expertise with intuition, spirit, and cultural memory. It is a place for deep healing, reconnection, and remembering who you truly are beneath all the roles and expectations.
In Colorado, I currently provide telehealth sessions. In Puerto Rico, I’m in the process of expanding my practice to include in-person services.
I also collaborate with a wonderful colleague, Tatiana, who works with me under the Bohique Counseling umbrella. She is a fellow bilingual Puerto Rican therapist based in Thornton, Colorado, and provides in-person therapy. Tatiana is also trained in EMDR and brings her own unique approach to working with trauma and acculturation issues, offering warmth, insight, and cultural attunement in her sessions.
Together, we are committed to providing accessible, high-quality mental health care to our community, rooted in cultural understanding, depth, and heart.
