Cultural Identities

About Dez Rodriguez, LMHC

Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Desiree “Dez” Capuchino Rodriguez.

I was born and raised in the Central Valley of California, with a few years spent in Southern California, and now call New York City home where I work as a psychotherapist, mental health educator, and activist.

As a first-generation college graduate and proud Latina, I know firsthand what it’s like to navigate spaces where you don’t always feel seen or understood. Growing up as the eldest daughter in a Chicano/Mexican-American family shaped how I show up in the world, and it is ultimately what called me to this heart-centered work.

My goal as your therapist is to offer a space where your authentic self can be expressed and honored. In our work together, we’ll explore both your past and present to gain a deepening understanding of who you are today—your challenges, and also the ways you love, create, and dream.

Much of my practice is about creating the kind of space I once longed for—one that is safe, identity-affirming, empowering, and rooted in cultural pride. I am passionate about social justice and supporting the holistic health and wellbeing of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+ folks of color, Latine, and Chicanx communities.

Whether we are navigating complex family dynamics, systemic oppression, or personal trauma, we will honor your full context, viewing your history as a source of strength rather than a barrier.
