About Carla M. Avalos, LCSW, PMH-C

Hola! I am a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is the owner of Nuevos Caminos Therapy Services and I am also the daughter of Salvadoran Immigrants.  Being born and raised in Los Angeles, I can resonate with some of the struggles most of my clients experience as I grew up in a household where mental health, generational trauma and boundaries wasn’t discussed.  I can also relate to the struggles of being a first generation graduate with minimal support and guidance as I am the first in my family to obtain both a bachelor’s degree and Master’s Degree. My primary focuses in  my private practice are to provide individual therapy and couples counseling to adults ages 18 and over who are experiencing a variety of emotional challenges related to attachment issues, boundaries depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, generational and racial  trauma, family conflict , life transitions and women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I am trained in Level 3 Gottman Method Couples Therapy where I help couples build emotional intimacy, learn healthy ways of resolving conflict and gain a better understanding of how to make their relationship last. In addition , I’m trained in Gottman’s 7 Principles of Marriage which is geared towards providing support and guidance to couples engaged or considering marriage as the next step in their relationship. I also conduct  Immigration evaluations for individuals for reasons of extreme hardship, seeking a U-Visa or asylum, and women seeking a VAWA petition.  I’m approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences to provide supervision for ACSW’s and I am able to provide clinical case consultations to LCSW’s for a reduced fee. In therapy, my goal is to help my clients seek clarity, find peace and self-compassion in their lives while also working on healing their wounds that may feel too heavy to overcome or carry on their own. As a Latina therapist and first generation Salvadoran-American, I’m most passionate about transforming the lives of individuals who identify as a BIPOC and women of color. I believe that everyone has the capacity to turn their life around and break generational patterns that are holding them back from achieving their goals. I hope that I can be a part of your transformational and healing journey. Please check out my website and reach out to me if you are interested in working with me. I offer a free 15-20 minute phone consultation to see if I’m a good fit for your needs as I strongly believe in the importance of finding a therapist who can understand your needs. I currently offer in person sessions on Fridays only in West Los Angeles. I provide Telehealth services Monday to Thursday (evenings) and Fridays (daytime) to residents in California, Utah and Florida. Wishing you all the best in your journey to wellness.
