About Aura Hernández, M.A. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and I work with adults who are looking for a steady, thoughtful, and reliable space to understand more clearly what they experience internally. Many of the people who come to my practice describe themselves as responsible, perceptive, and high-functioning, yet they often feel they carry too much inside—mixed emotions, internal pressure, doubts, or experiences that have not had a place to be thought about. My work is oriented toward those who want to pause, look inward, and understand themselves with greater depth and coherence.

My approach is contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This involves close attention to unconscious processes, early emotional experiences that may reappear in adulthood, and the internal relational patterns that shape how we feel, relate, and make decisions. I do not use quick techniques or symptom-focused interventions; instead, I make room for the therapeutic process so that emotional life can unfold in its own time and form. I aim to create a process where internal experiences are understood rather than immediately answered, and where what needs attention can be heard and made sense of.

In my way of working, you will find an environment that supports reflection and emotional honesty—a space where you can approach parts of yourself that may have been pressured, silenced, or in tension. Therapy with me is collaborative, and I help people discover connections that may have gone unnoticed and find a clearer sense of what they feel. This allows inner experience to take shape in words, meaning, and direction.

I often work with people who live outside their home country or who have gone through significant transitions: relocations, academic or professional changes, distance from family, cultural adjustments, or periods of emotional demand. Speaking in one’s native language can open a different kind of access to emotional life; images, internal sensations, and the language we use to describe how we feel often emerge with greater precision and depth in the language we grew up in. For this reason, I offer a space where the emotional and cultural experience of Latin American individuals can be understood without needing to be translated.

Common themes in therapy include internal pressure, perfectionism, ambivalence, emotional exhaustion, recurrent relational patterns, the feeling of carrying too much, the sense of not fully fitting in, and the desire to understand oneself with greater authenticity. Some early emotional experiences can reappear in adulthood, especially during moments of transition or vulnerability. Part of my work is to help people understand these emotional manifestations and give them a clearer place within their history and present life.

I hold a master’s degree in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and have completed the academic requirements of a doctoral-level program in Psychoanalysis with an emphasis on couple and family studies; I am currently completing my doctoral dissertation. In addition to my formal graduate and doctoral training—including post-doctoral coursework, clinical seminars, and specialized diplomas—I maintain an ongoing practice of clinical and theoretical study in contemporary psychoanalysis and current developments on adult emotional life.

I am an active faculty member at the graduate and psychoanalytic-training level, a speaker at conferences and seminars, and I have published articles related to psychoanalysis and emotional development. My clinical work focuses on adult psychotherapy processes that seek depth, internal clarity, and seriousness.

If you are looking for a space where your internal experience can be understood with care, depth, and emotional clarity—and where you can explore yourself with honesty and coherence—it would be a privilege to accompany you in that process.
