Cultural Identities

About Ana Lara-Roca

Living between cultures can be both beautiful and complicated. Many Latinx and bicultural individuals and families grow up navigating different languages, expectations, and identities while feeling like they must adapt depending on where they are. In today’s sociopolitical climate, these experiences can also bring additional layers of stress and questions about our sense of belonging. My practice is a space where all parts of your identity are welcome.

Many of my clients are individuals or couples navigating differences in communication styles, attachment needs, cultural expectations, and intergenerational family dynamics. Together we explore how early experiences, sense of identity, cultural values, relationship patterns and the pressure to balance multiple cultural worlds influence the way we connect, express care, and respond to conflict.

My personal story informs my work. I grew up in three cultures (Spanish, Cuban, and American) and married into a Mexican family. I understand firsthand the complexity of holding multiple identities and the process of integrating them so we can feel more grounded, authentic, and more “at home” in our body, relationships and communities.

I offer therapy in Spanish and English for adults, families and couples, with options for telehealth and in-person sessions. Some sessions can take place outdoors, creating a unique environment for grounding, reflection, and growth. My “out-of-the-box” approach incorporates restorative practices and creative ways of exploring growth for those seeking a deeper, more meaningful connection to themselves and their communities.

Taking the step toward counseling is brave. I will support you on your journey. My dog Horchata (“Chata”) will be along for the ride. She is hypoallergenic, gentle, and brings warmth and comfort to many clients. I offer a 15-minute complimentary consultation so we can see if we’re a good fit. I look forward to meeting you!
