About Alo Johnston, LMFT

Hi I’m Alo Johnston and I am a queer, trans, Puerto Rican therapist.

I have been a therapist for the past 11 years and I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ communities. I am the author of “Am I Trans Enough? How to Overcome Your Doubts and Find Your Authentic Self.” I feel grateful to have been able to work primarily with the queer and trans communities over the course of my career.

I am happy to meet you where you’re at whether you are looking to discuss and explore your identity in therapy or just want a therapist who understands your lived experience so you don’t have to spend your precious therapy time educating your therapist. Therapy is a vulnerable experience and I work hard to create a space with you where you feel able to say what perhaps has gone unsaid. This is a collaborative experience. I will never decide what therapy should look like without your input and I always welcome feedback so that we can find what works best for you.

I often work with clients who are struggling with: anxiety, depression (including persistent depression), trauma, dissociation, relational issues, people pleasing behaviors, maintaining boundaries, shame, and gender dysphoria.

I also frequently work with clients who are non-monogamous/polyamorous, or a a part of the kink/BDSM communities.

If you would like to learn more about my work or would like to set up a consultation please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
