About Jacquelynn Montgomery, LMFT

Hello, and welcome to my profile. I would consider it a privilege, should you choose to work with me and allow me to guide you through whatever challenges you may be struggling with. I have been working in mental health since 2006 in various settings with diverse populations which has molded me into a well-rounded therapist with a holistic approach to health and wellness.

I have a special interest in therapeutic approaches rooted in depth psychology, Jungian psychology, liberation psychology, and cultural healing methods. Since 2019, I have become more focused on trauma-informed therapy and research after noticing the trends in developmental and complex trauma in many of my clients.

I have 8 years of coursework and training in depth psychology (psychodynamic and psychoanalytic methods) during my time in a doctorate program at Pacifica Graduate Institute and have taken multiple trainings through the San Francisco Jung Institute. In 2020 I began to focus on somatics via trainings in trauma conscious yoga, somatic experiencing, polyvagal theory and I plan to continue with these trainings to better address trauma-related issues, mood dysregulation, and overall assist those I work with.  I enjoy any trainings that focus on serving the global majority and decolonization of the mental health system. I truly enjoy learning and evolving my craft.  I use art, yoga, meditation, dream analysis, breath work, EMDR, and sandtray in addition to traditional talk therapy.

My ideal clients are curious and yearn for a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them, they are willing to try new ways of being and seeing if it means it may positively impact their lives or expand their sense of Self and worldview.  The coping skills they learn will become lifelong tools.  I strive to help clients gain deeper self-understanding, develop self-compassion, and comfortably be their most authentic selves.

Not only do I have many years of education, training, and professional experience in the mental health field, I also have a wide range of lived experiences that inform my work.  I have learned that a great sense of humor goes a long way so if you love to laugh or would love to learn to laugh in the face of adversity, I am your person!

I feel that participation in regular consultation with my peers is important as well as participation in my own personal therapy to reduce the risk of countertransference i.e. projecting my own issues onto my clients. Know that our work together will be collaborative and I welcome feedback from my clients to ensure our work together is most beneficial to them. This does not mean that I will not challenge and encourage my clients to try new ways of thinking but I will adjust the therapy if certain techniques do not prove beneficial.  I look forward to hearing from you!
