Sofia Mendoza is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is a native of South Central Los Angeles. She specializes in burnout, helping the helpers (caregivers and any one in the helping industries), trauma and first generation professionals. Sofia is passionate about increasing access to mental health services and unlocking ones internal wisdom. She is a clinical supervisor in community mental health setting where she blends holistic and evidence practices to service the BIPOC community. She also serves as a clinical consultant on many complex issues such maternal mental health, emotion dysregulation, and race-based trauma. Sofia is currently involved in providing supervision for using EMDR treatment with children, BIPOC adults in community mental health, and for perinatal birth trauma. Sofia and colleagues, Lisa Bolden, Psy.D, and Lizbeth Gaona, LCSW Ph.D are collaborating on writing a book on using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) modality and skills to heal from race based traumatic stress (Releasing Fall of 2026).
Burnout and Employment Stress
In this Burnout & Stress presentation, Sofia focuses on defining and identifying signs of burnout with the self and staff. She also discusses the science of stress, threat and danger, and how to effectively manage stress. She complements the presentation with holistic and evidence based methods of releasing stress from our bodies and creating a plan for burnout recovery at home and at work.
Maternal Mental Health 101 & Mommy Hope Kit
In this presentation, Sofia offers an overview of Maternal Mental Health, considerations, signs and symptoms. She also provides a Mommy Hope Kit for expectant mothers to use when crafting their pre and post Mental Health Birth Plan with 100+ ways of coping and recommendations.
The Role of Values in your Vision Board
This is not your regular Vision Board Workshop. Sofia helps participants identify crucial values for the life they want to live and take steps toward crafting that life with all five senses (including visually for the vision board).
Mindfulness Activities for Kids (and for those who love them)
In her early career, Sofia specialized in child and adolescent mental health. She used many creative ways of teaching mindfulness and stress management skills to children and those who love them the most: their caregivers! In this workshop, Sofia offers several easy and practical ways of implementing mindfulness techniques to strengthen the attention muscle that contributes to being intentionally present and many other benefits.
The Role of Culture, Values and Trauma on Latinx Mental Health
Sofia shares with participants the role of culture, values and trauma on Latinx Mental Health. She explores protective factors and vulnerabilities. She also leads the group through a personal exploration of their values and plan for implementing them into their lives.
