About Luz M. Colon-Rodriguez, LIMHP, LPC

Luz M. Colon-Rodriguez, LIMHP, is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner in Nebraska and currently serves as the Director of Counseling and Prevention Education Services and 504 Coordinator at Central Community College (CCC). She was recognized as one of CCC’s 2023-2024 recipients of the League for Innovation in the Community College’s Excellence Award for her leadership in building the college’s state and national reputation in the areas of mental health and prevention education. Luz is also the owner of LUMI Mental Health Wellness and Consulting LLC. She holds advanced training and specialization in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child Parent Psychotherapy, Child Parent Interaction Therapy, Brainspotting, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She is also a certified trainer in Families Thrive, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention, a Hope Champion, and Community Green Dot, a bystander intervention program aimed at reducing power-based personal violence.

Before transitioning into clinical mental health work, Luz worked as a Student Affairs professional at Creighton University and the College of the Holy Cross, where she directed award-winning Diversity and Inclusion programs for students and employees. She also spent a much of her free time volunteering and supporting community organizations as well as inclusion efforts in the Worcester and Omaha communities. A passionate advocate for mental health and social equity, Luz continues her community engagement by leading workshops range of topics, including mental health, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as youth and women’s empowerment.

Originally from Puerto Rico and raised in the Boston area, Luz earned her B.A. in History and Latin American & Caribbean Studies from the College of the Holy Cross, an M.A. in International Studies from the University of Connecticut, and a second M.A. in Clinical Counseling from Northwestern University. She also holds certifications in Social Justice Training and Strength-Based Leadership. Luz currently resides in Kearney, Nebraska, with her husband and their two children.
