About Leonel Gonzalez, MS, AMFT

Dedicated to treating complex trauma, family dynamics, and crisis stabilization across the lifespan. I provide a sturdy, active clinical space for individuals ready to break cycles and families trying to navigate high-conflict storms, seasonal transitions, and school-year friction. Drawing on foundational experience in sexual trauma advocacy, crisis assessment, complex grief, and neurodivergence, my clinical focus centers on tailoring therapy to the cultural realities of the Latinx community. Fully bicultural and bilingual, my sessions move fluidly in English, Spanish, or Spanglish to honor the organic needs of your entire family system.

In our community, we are often bound by deep love, but we can also carry heavy roles, expectations, and unwritten rules. The cultural pressure to keep family secrets, achieve academically without complaining, or avoid talking about what happens behind closed doors can keep generational trauma, conflict, and pain locked away, especially when seasonal shifts like back-to-school push the family system toward a breaking point.

Not Sure Where to Start?

You don’t have to figure out the “right” therapy format before you reach out. The most important step is simply starting the conversation. Whether friction is showing up within yourself, between you and your partner, with your child or teen, or across your entire household, my job is to help you explore the dynamic and see what approach will serve you best.

During our initial consultation, we will look at the whole picture and explore who in your life would benefit from support and what role fits best. Whether that means working directly with me in individual, couples, or family sessions—or connecting family members with trusted colleagues in the group practice where I work—we will navigate those options together to get your system back on solid ground.

If You Are Seeking Therapy for Yourself

If you are the “stable one” or first-gen anchor in your life, you likely spend significant energy managing the emotions, survival, and anxiety of those around you. When fall routines and life demands kick in, this pattern often turns into severe burnout, perfectionism, and deep exhaustion. You might find yourself struggling to say no in your relationships or feeling completely disconnected from your own goals and identity.

Many clients look for a space where they can process daily anxiety, life transitions, and identity struggles entirely for themselves, without feeling the need to protect their therapist from the weight of their history. Because my clinical background is rooted in stepping into intense family conflict and trauma, I offer a steady, supportive space where you can safely look at these heavy realities. In this room, the goal is to help you understand your unique blueprint, drop the armor, and focus on your own self-acceptance and modern boundaries.

If You Are Looking for Someone You Love (or Your Whole Family)

Often, one person in the family recognizes a crisis first, especially when the stress of a new schedule or transition triggers a breakdown in communication. You might be scrolling through this directory looking for a resource for a partner, a parent, an adult family member, or a child or teen who is highly reactive, shut down, or stuck in repetitive arguments over routines and expectations.

You need to know if the professional you choose has the capability to engage with them effectively, even if they are resistant to traditional talk therapy. The space I provide offers a direct, structured container designed to meet clients right where they are:

  • Deconstructing the Loops: Instead of treating the person you bring in as the solo “problem,” I look at the whole picture to map out the arguments happening on repeat—like routine battles, partner tension, or school pressure, and work toward changing the family dynamic.

  • Building Stability: I utilize EMDR to directly process root trauma, weaving in trauma-informed principles and concrete coping skills (like distress tolerance and emotion regulation) to manage intense reactivity and promote real-time stability at home. I am also available to support families navigating school accommodations and the practical everyday behaviors of neurodivergence, including ADHD and Autism.

  • Fluent Fluidity (English, Spanish, or Both): Therapy shouldn’t force you to choose a side. My sessions move fluidly between English, Spanish, or a mix of both. Addressing relationship wounds, generational boundaries, and family conflict in the language where those experiences first occurred allows for a deeper therapeutic process, without having to pause or explain the cultural context of your words.

Whether you are ready to focus on your own growth and everyday life, or you are looking for a clinician to help navigate a difficult family dynamic, let’s work together to address the challenges in front of you.
