Dr. Leslie Peña-Sullivan is a licensed clinical social worker in New York and Connecticut, specializing in trauma-informed care with first- and second-generation immigrant clients.
As the daughter of immigrants, she understands what it means to grow up between cultures — holding pride in your roots while also carrying expectations. She knows the experience of being the translator, the responsible one, the cycle-breaker, and sometimes the one who feels ni de aquí, ni de allá.
Dr. Peña-Sullivan works especially with second-generation Latinx adults navigating bicultural identity, intergenerational trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, and complex family dynamics. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive, integrating evidence-based therapies with deep respect for migration stories and resilience.
She earned her Doctorate in Social Welfare from New York University, where her scholarship focused on trauma and acculturative stress in immigrant communities. In addition to her clinical practice, she teaches graduate social work courses at NYU and Quinnipiac University on immigrant mental health, trauma, and social justice.
She believes you deserve a therapy space where you do not have to explain your culture, because it is already understood.
