My name is Zaida Nair Arteaga, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist ( LMFT# 136966). I have my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Psychological Trauma Studies from Antioch University Los Angeles. I started my career providing therapy to survivors of abuse and continue to pursue assisting survivors of trauma rewrite their stories. I created Historia Therapy to work with the Latinx community to help emphasize the strengths of our culture and decrease cultural stigmas and familial expectations that can impact our wellbeing. In my work I emphasize how cultural and political structures such as white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism place burden and pressure on all of us, which directly impacts our mental health.
My ideal client may be struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions or cultural stress. I work with clients to help them understand and process that so much of our mental health is impacted by beliefs that we created long ago. That can include cultural bias, family expectations, or systemic oppression and injustice. We will explore these themes, as well as develop tools to help ground us and build up new and healthier beliefs. I always work through a trauma-informed lens, allowing for my client to feel safe, empowered, and lead our work together as they write their story.
