Cultural Identities

About Cynthia Magaña, LCSW

You’ve spent a long time being the one who holds it together. The strong one. The first one. The one who figured it out.

And yet here you are, accomplished and capable, quietly exhausted, wondering why it still feels like something is missing.

I’m Cyn, a queer Chicana licensed clinical social worker with dual licensure in California and New York. I specialize in depth therapy for first-gen adults, cycle breakers, and high-achieving professionals of color who are done surviving and ready to actually land somewhere safe inside themselves.

The trauma I work with didn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes it looked like being the most responsible person in the room at age seven. Sometimes it looked like learning to disappear in spaces to avoid conflict. Sometimes it looked like achieving everything you were told to want and still feeling hollow.

I work with AEDP, IFS, and somatic approaches, which means we don’t just talk about what happened. We track what’s alive in your body right now. We listen to the parts that overfunctioned, protected, and performed. We help them soften so something truer can finally come forward.

My work aims to be explicitly decolonizing and anti-oppressive. What I offer instead is relational, culturally grounded, and built around your actual life, including intercultural complexity, immigrant family dynamics, and spiritual identity.

I work especially well with professionals and creatives navigating anxiety, burnout, and the quiet grief of living between worlds. With queer, bicultural, and first-generation adults breaking inherited patterns. With individuals on nontraditional paths, including family planning, ethical non-monogamy, and spiritual reclamation. And with therapists and care providers who are ready to do their own work.

I also offer immigration mental health evaluations for VAWA, asylum, U Visa, T Visa, and hardship cases, with trauma-informed care and reports delivered within 14 days.

A free 30-minute consultation is available through the directory or at cynmagana.com.

Your healing. Your pace. Your way.

Con cariño, Cyn
