As a first-gen, Xican@ therapist, I understand the impact of systemic trauma on our mental health. I often work with folks who identify as BIPOC, First Gen, children of immigrants, First Gen college graduates, early career professionals, public sector workers, social justice and non-profit workers, etc. I use a recovery oriented lens that is influenced by values of social justice, feminism and liberation psychology. I am experienced in supporting folks with unpacking, processing and working through interpersonal and systemic trauma, relationship issues, cultural identity development, life transitions, race and class issues, etc. These experiences may impact your mood, ability to problem solve, worry, sleep, etc.
Together, we will examine the narrative you have created, adopted or were prescribed. We will examine the ways in which you have adopted aspects of your identity, your family’s and community and explore what fits and what does not. We may explore who creates and perpetuates those narratives? Who benefits from them? Together, we will work to validate, embrace, develop, challenge and possibly change different aspects of your dominant narrative and ultimately support your ability to better navigate the systems you are a part of.
