Hello! My name is Yamileth, but I mostly go by Yami. My goal as a therapist is to help people feel supported, understood, and empowered to become who they want to be.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults from many walks of life. This includes teachers and academic professionals, first responders, college and graduate students, new mothers, and those navigating family planning. I also work closely with survivors of intimate partner violence, as well as individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, co-dependency, life transitions, or relationship challenges.
I also have a special interest in working with first-generation individuals and those in caregiving or parental roles. These clients often struggle with stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, co-dependency, or difficulty setting boundaries and making decisions. My work with them focuses on building confidence, reconnecting with values, and finding balance in both personal and family life.
My approach to therapy is client-centered, personal, and flexible. I don’t believe therapy has to feel rigid or intimidating. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, supportive conversation. Many of my clients are coming to therapy for the very first time, and I take care to move at a pace that feels comfortable. I use humor when it fits and always stay mindful of how culture and current events shape what you’re experiencing. My goal is for therapy to be a space where you can show up as yourself, feel heard, and also feel gently challenged to grow.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Domestic Violence Professional, and certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Beyond my professional role, I’m a first-generation college graduate, the eldest child, and the only daughter in my family. I grew up in Los Angeles and moved to the Chicago suburbs in 2013 for school. Today, I’m also a wife and mom to two little ones.
If you feel like any of this spoke to you, I invite you to reach out for a free consultation at www.tamayacounselingcenter.com.
