About Jasmine Wilson, LCSW, SEP

Maybe you’re used to being the person others can depend on, someone who figures things out, shows up for the people you care about, and often carries more than your share. From the outside, you may seem capable and put together, while underneath, it takes a lot of energy to keep everything going.

You may find yourself overthinking decisions, questioning yourself, worrying about disappointing people, or feeling responsible for how everyone else is doing. When you’ve spent so much time paying attention to what needs to be done and what others need from you, it can become difficult to recognize what you need, what you’re feeling, or even what you want when no one else is asking something of you.

Culture and family can be part of this, too, especially if you grew up with particular expectations around responsibility, success, respect, or what it means to be there for the people you love. You may also have had to navigate different cultural expectations, identities, or ways of belonging, and therapy can give us space to explore how those experiences have shaped you without assuming that your culture, family, or identity means any one thing about who you are.

I come from a mixed cultural background myself, and I understand that the different parts of who we are can shape how we experience ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. I want therapy to be a place where we can talk about those parts of your experience when they matter, while also getting to know you as an individual rather than making assumptions about who you are.

My approach is somatic, relational, and depth-oriented, drawing from Somatic Experiencing, NARM, and psychodynamic therapy to explore both what’s happening in your life now and the patterns and experiences that may be underneath it. Along with talking through what you’re experiencing, we may slow things down enough to notice what’s happening in your body, what comes up in your relationships, or what happens internally when you feel pressure to push through, accommodate someone else, get things right, or set aside what you need.

As you become more familiar with these patterns and what happens underneath them, you may begin to recognize what you’re feeling and needing sooner, trust yourself with less second-guessing, and have more room to respond in ways that feel aligned with who you are rather than automatically falling into familiar ways of coping.

You don’t have to come to therapy already knowing exactly what’s wrong or what needs to change. We can begin with what feels hard right now and make sense of it together, and if what you’ve read here feels familiar, I offer complimentary 15-minute consultations so we can talk about what you’re looking for and whether working together might be a good fit.
