Cultural Identities

About Yazmin Maldonado Aviles, LMFT

I am a bicultural, bilingual, first-generation (Mexicana/Oaxaqueña) therapist. I have experienced trauma and other challenges that many marginalized and immigrant communities face growing up in the USA. With 10 years of clinical experience, my approach to therapy is grounded in the wisdom and lived experiences passed down through my elders and ancestors, the knowledge I gained through my master’s program in Mexico City and my 10 years of working in various settings (community mental health, schools and private practice). I believe healing happens when people feel seen, heard, and understood. I strive to create a culturally affirming, compassionate space where your lived experiences are honored.

Throughout my 10 years of experience, I have had the opportunity to support individuals who identify as first gens, queer, Oaxaqueños, children of immigrants, and eldest children among others. I consider these people cycle breakers, these individuals are naming and breaking away from patterns that no longer work for them in their personal and professional relationships. These people are choosing differently which leads to healing and have benefited from the support I provide them in therapy.

My goal is to provide a safe space for healing, where every part of you is welcomed and held with care and curiosity. I provide people with different perspectives, challenge harmful narratives and introduce new tools to help you continue living, healing, and thriving. Together, we’ll build on your strengths, foster resilience, practice nervous system regulation for the purpose of you achieving greater joy, connection, and well-being.
