Cultural Identities

About April Weir, LMFT

You feel exhausted. Headaches, stomach knots, shallow breathing, and sweaty palms seem to be your new normal. Stress is taking over, making it hard to sleep, focus, or feel in control. You catch yourself overeating or doing things that no longer align with who you are. On paper, you’ve achieved so much, but it still doesn’t feel like enough. Each accomplishment brings a flicker of hope, only to be followed by self-doubt and over-analysis. You’ve been questioning yourself for as long as you can remember, and now you’re wondering, “What can I do to finally feel better?”

Over the years, I’ve found a deep connection with individuals from immigrant backgrounds. As someone from an immigrant family myself, I understand the unique cultural pressures and shared struggles that often go unspoken. It’s also hard to be an immigrant or a child of immigrants because you feel like you always have to be good, grateful, and doing more. These things are especially hard because that pressure can feel isolating and heavy.

Imagine having more space to breathe and waking up without that knot in your stomach. Feeling calmer, clearer, and more steady as you move through your day. Speaking up for yourself without guilt or overthinking. Feeling lighter really is possible.

I became a therapists who helps immigrants and children of immigrants because seeing transformation in their lives gives my life meaning.

Together, we can work on expressing needs or setting boundaries without feeling selfish. We can work to honor your feelings and reconnect with your voice, while still maintaining family connections. In terms of my approach, I blend psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and person-centered therapy.

My goal is to help you break free from the belief that you have to constantly prove yourself. Let’s work collaboratively to reduce anxiety, feel more confident, and build a life you love. Contact me to schedule a free consultation.
