Hello, I’m Yiranda Diaz, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Before I became a PMHNP, I spent several years as a psychiatric registered nurse, working with people across different levels of care and a wide range of mental health conditions. That nursing background still shapes how I show up: I pay attention to the whole picture, not only one symptom list.
I provide medication management and psychotherapy for children ages 8 and older, adolescents, and adults. Common concerns I see include anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, mood disorders, emotional difficulties, and life transitions. I’m bilingual in English and Spanish, so we can work in whichever language feels most comfortable for you or your family.
My aim is straightforward. I want to help you get symptom relief, build coping skills that actually fit your life, understand your emotions and patterns a little better, and improve day-to-day functioning. I try to keep sessions supportive and nonjudgmental so you feel heard and respected while we figure out what works.
In our first session, we talk through your concerns, symptoms, personal history, current stressors, relationships, daily functioning, and goals. I’ll ask questions to understand how things are showing up across different parts of your life. From there we build an individualized plan that may include medication management, psychotherapy, coping strategies, lifestyle changes, or a mix of those. I want you to feel comfortable and involved from the start. With kids and teens, I also collaborate with parents or caregivers when that makes sense, while still making space for the young person to be heard and included in decisions.
What I bring into sessions is clinical training paired with a collaborative style. Hard conversations are welcome here. I treat the whole person, not just a diagnosis label, and I work with you on plans that are realistic for your schedule, culture, and responsibilities. Serving Spanish-speaking and bilingual families is an important part of my practice, and I try to stay culturally aware while we navigate care together.
I’m a good fit for children 8+, adolescents, and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, life transitions, emotional regulation issues, and other mood-related concerns. A lot of the adults I see are juggling work, relationships, parenting, caregiving, or big life changes and want practical tools they can use between visits. Kids and teens may be struggling with attention, mood, anxiety, school functioning, peer stress, or related issues. I do best with people and families who want to understand their symptoms and take an active role in treatment rather than sitting on the sidelines.
Medication management, when we use it, is collaborative. We review symptoms, diagnoses, current and past medications, how you’ve responded before, side effects, medical history, and your goals. If medication is appropriate, we pick options with evidence behind them, talk through benefits and risks in plain language, and adjust over time based on how you’re doing. When it fits medically, I may also discuss vitamins or supplements as a complement to care, never as a replacement, and always with an eye on interactions and your history.
My main therapy approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and supportive therapy. With CBT I help you notice unhelpful thought patterns, build coping skills, and connect thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in everyday situations like school, work, and home. Motivational Interviewing helps when you’re mixed about change. We clarify your own goals and build confidence without pressure or lectures. Supportive therapy focuses on listening, validation, problem-solving, and coping when you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship strain, caregiving load, adjustment issues, or major transitions.
Whether you’re looking for medication management, psychotherapy, or both, I work to keep the space safe and clear so you can move toward the goals that matter to you. If that sounds like the kind of partnership you want, I’d be glad to work with you.
Yiranda Diaz, PMHNP
