About Marlon Espinoza-Mendoza, RC

Marlon is a Resident in Counseling based in Virginia, passionate about walking alongside couples and individuals as they navigate life’s challenges. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in Well-being from George Mason University and later a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William and Mary, specializing in relationships, marriages, and families.

Marlon works with clients facing anxiety, stress, depression, relational difficulties, identity exploration, and emotional struggles, always aiming to help clients feel seen, heard, and supported. Marlon’s approach is compassionate and affirming, meeting people where they are and honoring every background and story.  Drawing from Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Marlon tailors his approach to meet each client’s unique needs.

Although therapy can involve exploring difficult emotions and experiences, Marlon believes growth does not happen in a rigid or overly serious environment. He brings warmth, authenticity, humor, and playfulness into the counseling space when appropriate, helping clients feel comfortable enough to be themselves.

Marlon is also Gottman Level 2-trained and uses evidence-based methods to support relationships. Through the Gottman Method, he helps couples strengthen their friendship and emotional connection, improve communication, navigate conflict more effectively, rebuild trust, and deepen intimacy. Whether couples are feeling disconnected, stuck in recurring arguments, or simply want to strengthen an already healthy relationship, Marlon works collaboratively to help partners better understand one another and build a relationship that feels secure and fulfilling.

Marlon is especially dedicated to creating affirming spaces for marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ and Latinx populations. He understands that culture, identity, family dynamics, and lived experiences play an important role in shaping how people move through the world and experience relationships. He therefore strives to create a space where clients can show up authentically, explore their experiences without judgment, and feel empowered in their growth.

Overall, Marlon believes every individual has the strength and potential to overcome life’s challenges and bring about meaningful change in their lives.
