About Julia Sanders, LCSW, LCSW-C, LICSW

Hello and welcome. I am so glad you are here! Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Julia Sanders and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker  helping folks heal their traumas and live the lives that they choose to live more authentically. I am currently providing in-person services in Northern Virginia as well as virtual services in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New York, and Florida.

I am a hyper-creative person who utilizes many somatic based and creative interventions that are rooted in evidence-based practice to help meet client’s needs and/or provide them with the missing experiences that their nervous system craves.

In my practice I prioritize the therapeutic relationship, meaning that co-creating a safe and comfortable space where healing can occur is my top goal. Learning about who someone is as a person is so very important to me, not only what has or has not happened to them. We are all humans, even when burdened with challenges and deserve the compassion and respect to land into a space without any expectations or additional burdens.

I operate from a client-led, attachment focused, anti-oppressive, feminist lens, and believe in holistic healing that trusts that the client has the ability to heal themselves with a bit of compassion and support.

I tend to work with folks burdened significantly by the ongoing stressors of life as these stressors intersect with oppression. I primary connect with People of the Global Majority & Black Indigenous People of Color, LGBTQIA2S+ people, people with disabilities and/or chronic illness, neurodivergent people, as well as people who are developmentally 12 years old or older but chronologically 18+. My work with folks usually explores the client’s experiences with trauma, stress, attachment, developmental injuries, grief, anger, and self-worth as shaped by lived experience and systemic oppressors.
I consider myself to be a children’s therapist for adults, meaning that I aid clients in connecting with their inner world, and provide them support in nourishing themselves with compassionate care to overcome the challenges that life has presented them with. I practice somatically with an intersectional approach to each client’s collaborative care.
Both in and outside of my practice, I honor the wisdom of those who came before me and those who continue to empower me to grow. Much like our ancestors, I believe that community is the antidote of trauma and when possible and appropriate I empower clients to find their community to empower continued healing rooted in togetherness and mutual support outside of the therapeutic space.
