About Carla Brun, LICSW, PMH-C

People usually reach out to therapy because something isn’t working anymore. Anxiety may feel louder than it used to, old patterns may keep showing up in relationships, or a major life transition may have brought up emotions you didn’t expect. Therapy can be a place to slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and find ways to move through life with more steadiness, clarity, and confidence.

I’m a trauma-informed, Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) therapist specializing in trauma, anxiety, perinatal mental health, and life transitions. I offer in-person therapy in Washington, DC, and telehealth throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

My approach to therapy is active and collaborative. Therapy shouldn’t feel like talking to a wall. I’ll ask questions, offer reflections, help connect the dots, and share practical tools as we work together. We’ll explore what’s happening in your life now while also looking at the experiences and patterns that shaped you. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and develop tools that support meaningful change.

As a bilingual (Spanish/English) Latina therapist and first-generation American, I understand that our identities and experiences shape how we see ourselves and the world. I bring an intersectional lens to therapy, where we can explore how race, gender, sexuality, culture, family, spirituality, and other parts of your identity influence your experiences and relationships. I offer therapy primarily in English, while welcoming multilingual clients to incorporate other languages when certain words or phrases feel emotionally resonant.

I have a particular passion for supporting people through pregnancy, postpartum, and the many emotional shifts that come with becoming a parent. I also work with individuals healing from single-incident and complex trauma, managing anxiety, and moving through major life transitions. My background as a pediatric psychotherapist also informs my work with parents and people exploring how early childhood experiences shape who we become.

Outside of therapy, my own practices of yoga, mindfulness, and spirituality have influenced the way I understand connection and well-being. Humor and play are also important parts of who I am, both in and outside of the therapy room; deep work does not (and should not!) mean we have to be serious all the time. When I’m not working, you can find me practicing yoga, diving deep into whatever topic is sparking my interest that day, or having a living room dance party to Bad Bunny with my kid.

I believe therapy is most powerful when you feel seen, respected, and understood. If you’re looking for a therapist who combines clinical expertise with warmth, curiosity, and a little bit of humor, I would love to hear from you. I offer free 15 minute phone consultations, where we can see if working together feels like a good fit.
