Cultural Identities

About Tamara Vazquez, MSW, LCSWA

Tamara (she/her/ella) is a bilingual (Spanish/English) Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate at Healing Waves Therapy & Counseling. Originally from Puerto Rico, Tamara brings a compassionate and culturally responsive approach to therapy, creating a space where clients feel welcomed, understood, and supported in their healing.

Tamara earned her Master of Social Work from East Texas A&M University and has experience supporting individuals navigating depression, emotional distress, trauma, abuse and neglect, aggression, and substance use. She also has experience working with individuals within the IDD community and supporting clients facing complex life stressors.

Tamara also offers couples counseling and works with partners who want to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and better understand one another. She supports couples in navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, and patterns that may be creating distance in the relationship.

Tamara brings a unique perspective to her work through her experience supporting military connected families. As an active duty military spouse and former Key Support Liaison, she understands the challenges of transitions, relocations, family stress, and the emotional impact that military life can bring.

Her therapeutic style is collaborative, strengths based, and client centered. Tamara works alongside clients to identify their goals and tailor therapy to their needs, while fostering a safe and affirming environment where clients can build insight, develop coping skills, and reconnect with their resilience.

Outside of her clinical work, Tamara enjoys makeup artistry, caring for her plants, exploring fashion, and traveling.
